Tidying Up 001: Nail Polish Clear Out

Let's just start off with the fact that I have way too much nail polish for one person. I know. But I've always loved to paint my nails and I'd pretty much whip out my box of polishes for a nail painting party with my friends at every opportunity. I've been curious about trying different brands, although I've largely stayed loyal to O.P.I. and Essie over the years. I took some inspiration from Anna from VDM and prepared myself for a huge nail polish clear out. I wanted to be left with a box of nail polishes that I'd be happy to look into each time I opened it. I've cleared out about 50 polishes - some of which will be thrown out and others which will be given to friends and family. I am currently left with about 30 or so polishes, which is still a lot - but hey, baby steps. We'll see how I do with these and perhaps I'll have another clear out in a few months (or sooner).

I did notice that my taste in nail polish has significantly changed over the years. In the middle school/high school years it was full of bright colors and flaming hot pinks. My favorite in middle school was the Strawberry Electric shade from Revlon, and my favorite in high school was O.P.I.'s My Chihuahua Bites. In college I went for a fun bright and went for some picks from Butter London.

You could say that late high school and college were "the dark years." All black everything. I've since graduated from these true blacks to the almost black nail polishes. I'm talking the dark navys, reds, and purples that are deceivingly black to the eye and absolutely beautiful.

I've held onto mostly Essie polishes as those are more recent purchases and much more wearable everyday shades, some OPI's that are my go-to keepers, and my recent (ish) Nails Inc. additions. One brand I'm quite keen on trying out this year would be Smith & Cult polishes - but we'll save that for a big splurge.

Tidying Up will be a series I'm starting here where I try to fulfill my 2016 goal to really just clear out all the unnecessary junk that I've collected over the years. I know we're officially 1/4 of the way done with the year, but better to start late than never. There will be snippets of drawer and closet clear outs, storage systems, and the likes.

Let me know if there's anything you'd like to see in particular!
