Glossier's Newest Addition | The Hand Cream
After 2 years in development, Glossier has launched their newest product - Hand Cream.
Leave it to Glossier to create one of the cutest packaged hand creams out there. This definitely is a sure-fire way to start a conversation with anyone when you pull this out to use. The packaging is cute and fun - it reminds me a bit of an AirPod case, a lighter, and a Tic-Tac box lol.
The packaging of their hand cream is a soft but sturdy material and I’m glad it’s one that I know won’t explode inside of my handbag. It’s a soft pink (millennial pink + Glossier pink all in one) with a bright pop of red at the portion where lotion is dispensed. Classic Glossier packaging. The squeeze portion of this really allows for you to disperse the perfect amount of product.
The texture of the hand cream is a light whipped texture. It sinks into your skin nicely without leaving a greasy film. It does take maybe a minute or two before the lotion-y feel fades away, but it will go away. With ingredients like Meadowfoam Seed Oil and Coconut Fruit Extract, I knew that I was going to like it for it’s hydrating factor. Meadowfoam Seed Oil was one of my favorite ingredient discoveries in 2018 (thanks to The Leo Oil) and this probably jump kicked my excitement level 10x. If you’ve tried the Chanel hand cream, the texture of this strongly reminds me of that one.
A few people are comparing it to Glossier’s fragrance , You. Glossier says that it’s You “reimagined". I disagree as You is one of my favorite scents and this just didn’t hit home. The scent is a bit strong and lingers for a bit. The first time I used the scent I didn’t like it and rinsed it off. I left it aside for a few days and went to try it again and liked it a bit more. I’ve been slowly easing myself into using this and actually do enjoy it more now. I’m hoping they’ll bring out a range of hand creams: unscented (for those sensitive to scents), one similar to Body Hero, and beyond.
One great thing to note about the Hand Cream is that it has been dermatologist-tested & is cruelty-free, gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free, nut-free, GMO-free - making it suitable for many skin types! Unfortunately I do know a lot of people are sensitive to fragrances so if you’re in that camp, I’m going to say take a hard pass from this launch.
Price wise it can be a bit pricey in comparison to some other hand creams on the market. Glossier’s hand cream comes in at $18 for 1.7 oz.
I thought I would do a quick comparison of some of my favorite hand creams on the market:
L’Occitane Almond Hand Cream: $12 for 1 oz / $24 for 2.6 oz
Caudalie Hand & Nail Cream: $15 for 2.5 oz
Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm: $30 for 2.6 oz
Kiehl’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve: $16 for 2.5 oz
Le Labo Hand Pomade: $25 for 1.8 oz (haven’t personally tried this aside from samples, but it’s popular so I included it)
Chanel La Creme Main Hand Cream: $50 for 1.7 oz
From my analysis, I’m pretty sure that Glossier’s relatively high price is in line with their “cult” status. The more well known the brand, the more they are able to charge. As Glossier was founded on the basis of Into The Gloss, they are purveyors of bougie products (including hand creams) and it is no doubt that they are aiming to make the Glossier Hand Cream cult status.
Overall I think the hand cream is cute but obviously not a necessary purchase. I wouldn’t scream to go out and buy it ASAP cause you need it. But if it’s something you think is fun and you like to try new hand creams, go for it. Also, it makes the cutest prop in photos 😉
