Feeling Berry Lip(py)

MAC Beet, NARS Damned, TopShop Beguiled

L-R// MAC Beet, NARS Damned, TopShop Beguiled

Last weekend I was walking around Sephora with a friend who was in search of a new neutral lip color. I was having a field day walking around the store and sharing all of my suggestions with her. I'm a bit crazy eyed when I walk into Sephora - my boyfriend can attest to the fact that I walk from stand to stand swatching everything like crazy. But in this case, I was pretty well behaved and helped my friend pick out some new products. I was doing so well, and then I picked up NARS Damned. I swatched it and ugh, it was just so pretty. I knew I needed to try it on so I did - and I got about 3 compliments from people around me in a matter of minutes. I validated this purchase in my mind as:

1) the fact that Spring is around the corner and this is a fun vampy, warm weather color (Is there even such a thing?)

2) I've been wanting to try NARS Matte Lip Pencils and this was a good way to do just that.

3) I have an obsession with lip products and there really isn't anything I care to do about it.

4) Do you girl. Treat yo self.

With this newest lip addition, I thought I'd do a quick post on some of my favorite berry/fuchsia/plum colored bold lip products at the moment. My first product in this color range was Topshop's Beguiled. The story behind this one was that I had just bought MAC's Rebel - because what girl hasn't heard of it/ swatched it/loved it? As I was walking away from the MAC counter in Nordstrom, I noticed Topshop's classic packaging and ran over. This was my first time encountering a Topshop counter and I didn't know where to start. This was circa 2013 when Zoe was constantly talking about her Infrared lipstick. I swatched beguiled and thought it was similar enough to Rebel that it would be a good way to mix up my lipstick collection. So I apologetically returned the MAC lipstick and got the Topshop one instead. I still love it!

I'll be honest, I used to think that lipsticks were so daunting that you could not possibly wear them without a lip liner. Because who wants to risk looking like a clown or having the lipstick bleed all over the place? I bought MAC Beet to use with Beguiled, but slowly realized that it's not really necessary. A few months ago, I was watching Anna on VDM and saw her using Beet on it's own - just draw it on and color your lips in. Why didn't I think of that?!  I tried it shortly after and let me tell you - it has some true lasting powers.

The NARS lip pencil is wonderful. I've worn it once so far and it really stays on the lip in a nice matte fashion, and doesn't particularly dry out my lips. If you're looking for a fun dark lip that isn't a deep red or dark purple, this may be the one to try.

What are some of your favorite shades and colors to wear on your lips?

Cheers!
