Glossier Sunscreen - Invisible Shield | Review, First Impressions, & Discount
Just when you thought Glossier was done with new releases, they did it again. For years customers have been asking for one thing : sunscreen. And after two years of planning, it's finally hear. Say hello to Invisible Shield, Glossier's response to every girl's daily SPF needs. Keep reading for my thoughts on the sunscreen + the very end for a little code!
Sun protection is something we've all been told to use, but is something many (including Emily Weiss herself) are not the best at following. Did you know that people who use sunscreen every day (SPF 15 or higher) show 24% less skin aging than those who do not use sunscreen daily? Spending an extra 15 seconds layering on some protection can do so much to prevent aging effects and damage to your skin. Do yourself a favor and put on sunscreen. Every. Single. Day.
As a fair skinned gal I am prone to burning easily, and high school me (on the swim team / track team) was not disciplined at all when it came to sunscreen. I just threw on a little bit of a Neutrogena waterproof sunblock on my skin areas prone to burning (aka my cheeks, nose, and shoulders). Safe to say that even 10 years later (eep), I can see the damage in my skin. Learn from those older than you and wear. that. sunscreen.
Starting around 4(?) years ago when I graduated from college (eep again), I've been regularly using sunscreen. Yes, a lot of foundations have SPF in them, but still not enough. Like many others, I'm not particularly keen on layering on an oily sunscreen on my face, nor do I want to walk around all day smelling like I should be at the beach. That's where the Glossier sunscreen (Invisible Shield) comes in to play - *cue angels singing.*
Unlike other sunscreens which tend to be a milky white shade, Invisible Shield is a thick and clear, water-gel consistency which glides over your skin. It comes in an airless pump *swoon* and makes it perfect for travel. The shelf life of the product is not listed in straight months, but my bottle does say it expires February 2019 - which is approximately 21 months away. Not shabby at all.
Although this product does have a slight zesty scent, it does still have your typical hint of sunscreen scent. Personally, I don't mind it as I feel like I can smell the protection haha - literally. For years I was using the Shiseido Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector, but I got bored and outgrew it. I've recently been alternating between the Purlisse Blue Lotus Essential Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30 and the Missha All Around Safe Block Essence Sun SPF45. Both are fab and comfortable under the skin. But Invisible Shield has only been in my possession for a short time, but as name suggests, it's Invisible under makeup and layers beautifully with the rest of your skincare routine and makeup.
The Invisible Shield is perfect for the everyday girl as it's meant for everyday wear - not beach/warm weather specific. From the air we breathe to the computers we sit in front of, there are UV rays that are damaging our skin. Even if you aren't sitting outside all day, you still need to protect your skin. And Glossier, just as they do with all their other products, make it easy to do so. There are Active Microcapsules which are tin spheres packed with UVA/UVB filters which are given to your skin with every application. There is a combination of Vitamin E, Vitamin P, Broccoli, and Aloe Leaf extracts to help neutralize free radicals inside skin (ya know, the things that make your skin sag and wrinkle - no thanks).
Invisible Shield retails for $34 (Edit: Price has been lowered to $25 - even better!!) which is reasonably priced among sunscreens out there. It is on the pricier side but one that I think is completely worth it - it is definitely going to be a game changer in the sunscreen world. The best thing is it's just above the price mark for free shipping on your Glossier order, so you can pick up this alone or some restocks on your favorite bits!
